Match Report - Demons vs North Carolina - FINAL SCORES: BD 14.12.96 to NCT 8.7.55

MATCH REPORT
BOSTON DEMONS V NORTH CAROLINA TIGERS
MAY 30, 2009

The Boston Demons faced off against the North Carolina Tigers on Saturday in their first official EAFL game of the 2009 season. The Demons with a squad of 21, with a few new faces and some of our key players missing, knew they were in for a tough encounter. With only 21 players the Demons knew their back was against the wall. The Tigers definitely looked stronger and more prepared with a larger squad, both in numbers and height. And with the addition of former Demon Scott Fairweather, they would definitely be a tougher team.

The Demons started with a solid attack on the ball right from the first bounce and quickly knew they had a game on their hands. The midfields worked hard, the defense was solid, and the forwards did a good job letting us go into the first quarter break with a 2 goal lead. After a quarter time address by Coach, they were implored to stay disciplined and play their game. Some sloppy football saw the Tigers win the quarter and put the Demons in a tough position at the long break.

Half Time Scores: BD 7.4.46 to NCT 5.4.34

Making the game a tougher one than we would have liked, the Demons started the third quarter with a little more passion. The Tigers, not wanting to be beaten stepped it up also, kicking a behind and goal in quick succession, making it a 5 point game. Now the real test, the Demons would have to really lift as the Tigers could sniff a victory. Some key players began to rise to the occasion, Strats continued to lead the team with some great second efforts, while Joey was solid in defense. Rinks dominated the rucking contests, which gave the midfielders plenty of ball, however the kicking for goal left a bit to be desired. The Demons kicked 3.7 and once again kept the Tigers within reach. At the final change it was BD 10.11.71 to 7.5.47.

The final quarter was set to be a good one, with both teams having the desire to win the first official game of their EAFL seasons. The Demons got away to a quick start and finally started to play more of “Demons Footy”. The skill level lifted, the players lifted, and the intensity to was increased. Finally playing the disciplined football we know the Demons are capable of, they ran away with a solid win. Rhino was strong in defense, Shep played a great game as the Full Forward, Paul lifted the team when thrown into the middle, and Ards was solid at CHF taking some great grabs. Not to be outdone though, Strats took mark of the day right over the top of his opponent, and Danny Boy marked well in the forward line, and Macca nearly got off the ground! The crowd lifted when Big Bill (The Fridge) nearly kicked his first goal, which I am sure will not be too far away. The Demons showed some great character once they got going and finished the game with some good kicking for goal. Final quarter the Demons kicked 4.1 to the Tigers 1.2.

FINAL SCORES: BD 14.12.96 to NCT 8.7.55

BEST ON GROUND: Joe Fantony

BEST: Strats, Joey, Shep, Macca, Damo and Rinks

GOALS: Macca 8, Shep 3, Ards 1, Paul, 1 and Hags 1

INJURIES: Strats – Ribs, Caffers – shoulder, Al – thumb, Rinks – butt (hopefully Rinks and Al’s injuries are not related). Macca remains injury free!!!

FIRST GAMERS: Paul and Bill the Fridge

REPORTS: Nil

RUNNER: Mike Larsen

UMPIRES: Bruce and Doug (great job all weekend)

Jeff "Chugger" Tassi strives towards his marathon. http://www.runDFMC.org/jeffreyt2009

Hey Dees, Well, its less than 4 weeks from today that I will be running in the 113th Boston Marathon, a 26.2 mile trek from Hopkinton, MA to the finish line on Boylston Street in Downtown Boston. So far in my training, I have logged over 600 miles, burnt over 76,000 calories, been through 3 pairs of running shoes, and have had some serious chafing going on, but that's a story for another day. In addition, with everyone's help, I have been able to raise over $5500 for cancer research, which is the reason why I am running. I mean, who in their right mind would run that far just for the hell of it (unless you are being chased, of course)? Thank you so much to those who have already generously donated. Your contributions are much appreciated. I have been assigned Bib #22437. This means I will only have to pass 22436 people in order to win the race. I like my odds. You can track my progress on Marathon Day (April 20). Simply log onto the Boston Marathon website: http://www.bostonmarathon.org/BostonMarathon/113thMarathon.asp and follow the links on tracking a runner. I have set a goal of 4 hours and 10 minutes, which is about a 9:30 per mile pace Please consider supporting me in my quest to raise much needed funds for cancer research. Feel free to visit my website: http://www.runDFMC.org/jeffreyt2009 Thanks for your support, Jeff "Chugger" Tassi

Training Message from the Coach - schedule for upcoming month.

Everyone,

Hope all is well and you are all ready for a big 2009. The club has been working tirelessly on getting together a great season of games, with both Metro and EAFL games. The season’s first hit out is on April 18 in Canton. This is a Metro style tournament against the NY Magpies. We will be hopefully having 2 teams from each club and have a day of games in a round robin format, so everyone will get to play a lot of footy. More to follow….

With that said, it is time to get fit and prepare for the season. While the weather and grounds are not ready for a lot of outside work, we will be starting with the following schedule. We may add in some midweek sessions, so I will let you know once we secure and confirm a location. Please take your time to check it out….

DAY DATE TIME LOCATION TYPE

Monday - 3/9 - 8.30pm - Gibbs Gym, Tufts St, Arlington - Gym session
Saturday - 3/14 - 3pm - 71 Bear Hill Road, Merrimac,01860 - Season Kick Off Party
Saturday - 3/21 - 11am - Harvard Stadium, 95 N Harvard t Boston, MA 02134 - Bridge Run
Monday - 3/23 - 8.30pm - Gibbs Gym, Tufts St, Arlington - Gym session
Saturday - 3/28 - 10am - 16 Allen Road, North Easton, 02356 - Run and BBQ
Saturday - 4/4 - 11am - Harvard Stadium, 95 N Harvard St Boston, MA 02134 - Run/skills
Saturday - 4/11 - 11am - TBD - Run/skills
Saturday - 4/18 - TBD - Irish Cultural Center, Canton - METRO V NY

As we have a game in 6 weeks, and we have minimal midweek sessions scheduled at this stage, it is VERY important that you all do as much training on your own as possible. With a Metro style tournament it will be important to get as much cardio fitness as possible, so run everyday possible.

Also, note, the Official Season kick Off will be a party at my place. We will not be training on that day however if the weather is good we will be able to play games outside. Apart from that it will be a party that everyone is invited to. We will send out an evite so please respond so we can cater accordingly…..

Looking forward to a great season and seeing you all soon.

Scott Scott Nicholas

The Chowder Cup is over for this year with the Lobsters remaining undefeated and taking out the final in a fearless display of footy prowess. 15.20 (110) 8.10 (58)

The Chowder Cup is over for this year with the Lobsters remaining undefeated and taking all before them to glory, led by their fearless coach Damian \"Damo\" Helem!

Chowder Cup Grand Final Report

The Lobsters have won the Chowder Cup in emphatic style running out 52 point winners. The Lobsters finished their campaign undefeated. While without the president (Lars), Macca and Ards, the Lobsters welcomed back Honest and Rhino for their first games of the year. After being the number 1 pick in the draft, the stand-off between Dave and the Buffs finally came to an end with Dave pulling on the Buffs jumper for the first time. Leading into the game saw a little drama as the rain from the night before and morning of had the potential to see the game cancelled.

Once the game was given the all clear, the Lobsters came into their own with the wet conditions (as you would expect Lobsters to do) and dominated for 4 quarters with 35 scoring shots to 18. The Lobsters dominated the first quarter and should have kicked at least 4 more goals after kicking 3.7. The wayward kicking by the Lobsters continued throughout the game and kept the Buffs in the contest to half time. Damo was the major offender kicking 6 points to go with his 5 goals for the day. The Buffs opened up with the first 2 goals of the third quarter which looked to breathe some life back into the contest but these goals were quickly answered by the Lobsters. and confirmed what everyone thought, the game was a forgone conclusion. As in Round 2, the last quarter started with the Buffs starting with an additional player on the ground resulting in a goal. In both instances, Hollywood was the extra player (he was on loan to the Bees in Round 2). Given the Captain (Damo) did not call for a count, the goal was counted. Unlike the first 2 rounds where the games were tight, this game was a blow out that could have turned into a massacre (wayward kicking by the Lobsters prevented this).

The Buffs struggled up forward all day only managing one multiple goal kicker for the game which was the commish himself, Hollywood! While the Buffs defence battled all day, the Lobsters were unstoppable in the forward line getting great drive from their backline through Rinks and Honest which provided the forwards with ample opportunities. Honest was able to sweep across the backline after being unmanned for a majority of the game. Both Bear and Clarky provided great targets in the forward line taking strong marks. Although both were unable to capitalize on occasions with some wayward kicking. For the Buffs, Caffers and Jamie were relentless all game with their aggression and attack on the ball. At times, it was visible that the frustration was getting to the Buffs with aggression being shown towards each other (Dewar/Hollywood). Dave provided a great contest in the ruck all day and teamed well with Dewar.

The Lobsters put on a great display of professionalism on and off the park throughout the tournament. When Damo put this team together, there were a lot of doubters and people skeptical about whether this team would be able to get on the park or stay healthy and laughed at his selections on draft night. I guess Damo has had the last laugh!

Everyone may put the victory down to the Lobsters being to strong on the day with having a close to full strength team or by Damo\'s draft selections, but ultimately it was the assistant coach (Macca) that masterminded the victory!

Lobsters win against Bees - 12-10 (82) to 10-10 (70)

The Cambridge Lobstermen have held on to beat the Brookline Bees 82 points to 72. The Bees squandered a comeback chance late in the 4th quarter when Hollywood was sent off the field due to being an extra player.

The Lobsters took control in the second quarter scoring 7 goals to 2 and were able to hold on for the rest of the otherwise closely contested match.

On debut, Bear managed 5 goals for the Lobsters with Lars providing good support with 3 goals. Being undermanned, the Bees struggled to find a multiple goal kicker with Mackay who managed to boot 7 in the prior week only managed 1 this game. Ultimately, the Lobsters held a 1-2 goal lead throughout the second half in which the Bees were not able to close the gap. With the game being a must win for the Bees and trailing heading into the final quarter, the Bees kicked a quick goal through Hollywood. Controversy immeadiately followed as a player count was enforced and the Bees were found to have an additional player (Hollywood) on the field. Flash backs of the North/Sydney game earlier this year came flooding back. In the end, it was agreed upon that the first goal kicked would not be included in the final result.

Round 1 - Bees 15.7 (97) v Buffs 17.8 (110)

Round 1 - Bees v Buffs

The highly anticipated round 1 match between the Bees and Buffs lived up to the hype with a fast paced and skilled game that saw the Buffs run out 13 point winners. The difference in the game was that the Buffs did some recruiting prior to the game with Webby and P. Santamaria pulling on the jumpers for the Buffs allowing the Buffs to have an interchange which provided a distinct advantage over the Bees who didn't. The game started off well with Bees jumping to a 1 goal lead after the first break. The second quarter was all Buffs, kicking 6 goals to 1. The first half saw Hollywood throw a "hissy fit" towards the umpire for call he never received and quite frankly probably wasn't even there - it doesn't matter how much you whinge (and thats a lot in Hollywood's case), the umpire is never going to change a decision. The second half saw the Bees coming at the Buffs but falling short at the final mark. Not even a 7 goal haul from Mackay could get the Bees over the line. Although his 7 goals could have easily been 9 as he had a shot at goal touched on the goal line and then committed the cardinal sin of kicking into the man on the mark 10m out directly in front. The Buffs managed to kick a few cheap goals on the goal line throughout the course of the game.

Scores:
Buffs 17.8 110
Bees 15.7 97

Buffs: Webby, Hollywood, P. Santamaria, Hags
Bees: Mackay, Strats, Nick, Pearl,

Demons win in NYC! 9-9-63 to 9-3-57

The Demons have won against NYC in NYC.

Game Report and Final Scores:
Boston New York

Q1 1.4 10 1.0 6
Q2 2.6 18 6.1 37
Q3 7.8 50 6.2 38
Q4 9.9 63 9.3 57

Goals: Scott Dewar 3, Paul Haggarty 3, Mike Larsen 1, Mark McCaffery 1, Scott Mackay 1

Best: Scott Dewar, Paul Haggarty, Dave Morton, Kyle Cross, Brad Rinklin, Earl Evon, Andy Stratford

Both teams showed up with good numbers that allowed for a 9 a side metro game to be played after the main game that featured not only brand new Demons but also players new to the game. Conditions were wet and slippery for the game due to early rain in New York. In the first quarter, it was visible that Boston had turned up to play as they controlled a majority of the play and opened up with some strong marking in the forward line. With a majority of the possession, Boston struggled to convert and take the advantage on the scoreboard. The second quarter saw New York come out fired up and taking control of the game, kicking 3 early goals in the quarter. Boston played undiscipline football at times that allowed New York to kick 5 goals to 1 goal in the second quarter and take a 19 point lead into the main break.

Half time had the coach urging the team to stick to its game plan. The third quarter began in a similar fashion to the first quarter with Boston controlling a lot of the play. Boston was able to get strong rebound from their half back line in which the forward line capitalized on kicking 5.2 to 1 point to overcome the half time deficit and take a 2 goal lead at the final change. The final quarter was an even contest with Boston jumping out to an early 3 goal lead followed by New York kicking 3 straight goals getting within 1 point of Boston. Boston was able to hold their composure in the final minutes of the game kicking a goal and running out eventual 6 point winners.

Chowder Cup to start again in 2008

Dees,

In August and early September we will be welcoming back that annual carnival of awesomeness the Chowder Cup. What’s that rookie? What is the Chowder Cup? Well the Chowder Cup is named in honor of the 15 or so immortals who played for the South Boston Chowders in 2002 and crushed the North Shore Knights 6 games to 1 to win the first New England Metro Footy League. Since then we have split the club up into four storied franchises who have fought tooth and nail to win the Chowder Cup each year. The Chowder Cup is generally ten a side games on a shortened field where players get plenty of the ball and can really learn game time decision making, work on their individual skills and fitness. It’s a great way for the less experienced guys to grow as footballers and to introduce new guys to the sport. Its also provides a way for our older retired players to get a game of footy in Boston and pass on their wealth of experience to the next generation without the travel commitments of a full Demons season.

The Chowder Cup is always played in Boston meaning no travel and in the past was a good social event for all including supporters. It would be great to get that spirit going again.

We are not 100% sure on the format whether we will go with 3 teams or 4. I’m hoping that we get enough numbers committed to go with four teams but to do that we will need at least 48 guys who can commit to at least two of the four weeks of Chowder Cup action. I’ll be asking for player sign ups in the last week of July (it’s free of course). Whatever format we will go with we will have an action packed draft that will put the NFL to shame. Each team will have a Captain and a Vice Captain who will be responsible for the running of your club. It’s a big honor. You don’t have to do anything now but I just wanted to make you aware that the Chowder Cup is back and that we will be having regular competitive games in Boston throughout August and September. Start dreaming the Chowder Cup dreams.

The Teams:

The Cambridge Lobstermen:
The most storied franchise in Chowder Cup history with wins in the 2003 and last year. The Lobstermen won “the game.” The 2003 Chowder Cup final over the Jamaica Plain Buffaloes. Against overwhelming odds the Crustaceans won their first title by coming back in the last quarter for a win against the thundering herd. Last year they secured a second championship against the Brookline Killer Bees with a best on ground performance from a ringer in the shape of myself who was awarded the MVP medal by myself.

Colors: Red with a White Anchor

Active Foundation players: Kyle Cross “Mr Lobster”*
The Greats: Will Skinner, Kyle Cross*, Steve Gain*, Skills Burgess, Brendan Hayes, Bulldog, Luke Chamberlain, George Hamilton

The Jamaica Plain Buffaloes:
Often accused of being the darling of the league office, the JP Buffaloes have been the glamour club of the league. With several all time Demons greats on the roster the Buffaloes have been a perennial powerhouse and retain core of players who bleed Buffalo. JP won the 2004 title in the fine style against the Bees.

Colors: Black with Green trim and a yellow cross resembling the Jamaican Flag
Active Foundation players: Scott Mackey, Jamie Gain, James Aylward “The Big Three”

The Greats: “The Big Three”, Al Nugent, Nick van der Graf, Kieran Harvey, Brian Flarrety

The Brookline Killer Bees:
The Bees have swarmed to the Chowder Cup final many times and have had their fair share of bad luck over the years in those finals. The only year they did take the honey back to the hive was in 2006 in the disgraceful “Black Bees” scandal where Jeff “Chugger” Tassi* took over the reigns of the league as Commissioner and stacked his side to an obscene level. This tragic legacy is something Bee fans have had to live with all these years.

Colors: Gold, Grey and Blue (A truly terrible jersey)
Active Foundation players: Jeff Tassi*, Andrew Stratford*, Sean Keane*

The Greats: Strats*, Chris “The Hammer” McClinchy*, Sean Keane*, Earl the Pearl*

The Watertown Rats:
The accursed team. The Rats in all their history have never even appeared in a Chowder Cup final let alone won the thing. That’s an enormous accomplishment when you consider that in a four team league in six tries they have not finished in the top 2. They have been a true Bermuda triangle of Demons talent. With names like Mutton, Bartlett, Florence and Tayler all squandering their chance at Chowder Cup glory. The Rats have been plagued with truly horrible draft classes often favoring the uncommitted flashy Full Forward over the committed, reliable defenders. A franchise in need of a hero and a brain.

Colors: Blue and Gold
Active Foundation players: George Lakomy, Jeff “Poopy” Katstra*

The Greats: Lakomy, Poopy*, Steve “Damo” Florence, Adam Verstegan

Through the years:
2002 South Boston Chowders
2003 Cambridge Lobstermen
2004 Jamaica Plain Buffaloes
2005 Footy ( The final wasn’t plaid this year because so many Demons were on the US Revolution tour of Australia)
2006 Brookline Killer Bees
2007 Cambridge Lobsterman
2008 ?

2008 Chief Commissioner: James Aylward
2008 Deputy Commissioner: Earl Evon
*Indicates was involved in the “Black Bees” Scandal of 2006

Since this was disputed, Damo (fake one) wrote a letter to explain the Rats record..

In defense of the Rats – A short essay by Steve “Damo” Florence (inaugural Rats coach)

For those of you selected to pull on the Rats colors, wear them with pride and hold your rodent heads high. It’s true that the Rats have not had a lot championship success over the years but no franchise in Chowder Cup history has been more entertaining, misunderstood, dramatic or just flat out compelling than the rodents of Watertown. Whether at their flamboyant best or at their shambolic worst one fact remains: the Rats put bums on seats.

The rodents have a tragic history suffering under ‘the curse of the Benbino’, a terrible hex put on the club in it’s inaugural year when star mid-fielder Ben Taylor was deported just as the Rats were gearing up for a run at the cup. Since then the club has suffered innumerable setbacks and public humiliations ranging from the now infamous 2004 “Sex Boat” scandal to Jeff “Pacman” Kastra’s many run-ins with the law. However, these things pale in comparison to the real reason behind Watertown’s lack of silverware in the cabinet which is simply that no Rat has been corrupt enough to serve simultaneously as both player and league commissioner and load up the team with disproportional talent.

Stay classy in defeat Rodents.

Boston Demons lose nail biter to Baltimore-Washington Eagles by 3 points. 9-18 (72) to 10-9 (69)

The Boston Demons played their first game of the 2008 EAFL season against the number 2 ranked BW Eagles. In oppressive heat south of Boston the Demons saw a very positive 35 players turn up to play. There was a 9 a side Metro game as a curtain raiser that featured not only brand new Demons but also players new to the game. The heat took its toll on everyone and was definitely setting the stage for a very tough main event. The number 2 ranked BW Eagles look fit and determined as they took the ground. The Demons in their first hit out of the season, also under the guidance of their new coach Scott Nicholas, were determined to set the stage for a new season. The game started and was very physical right from the first bounce. The heat and intensity continued to rise as the day went on. Boston pushed through some teething problems, and slightly better kicking, to be in front at the first break 22 to 17. BWE came out fired up in the second quarter as Boston struggled to find their ground. With only 2 shots on goal for the quarter, Boston trailed at the main break 29 to 40. Half time had the coaching staff urging the team to stick to its plan, playing long and using their height. Despite the surge, the Demons were jumped and caught napping. The Eagles with an attack on goal kicked 3 relative quick goals, leaving the Demons in their wake. Boston refused to lie down and fought back from a 30 point deficit to be 17 behind at the final change. Again being urged to stick to their plan and playing with the Demons pride we know still exists, the Dees started to play the game the way they should have and began to control the quarter, and nearly the game. Final scores saw an exhausted bunch of players coming in 3 points short. Apart from some undisciplined plays (3 X 50 meter penalties that resulted in goals to BWE) the Demons should that they are a team to be reckoned with in 2008, finishing strong and with their pride intact.

Goal Kickers:
Damo – 3, Ards – 2, Seanny – 2, Clarky – 1, Earl – 1 and Bam - 1

BEST:
Damien Helem, Arthur Campbell, Jason DeGeorge, Earl Evon, Jamie Gaines

Tony Morwood, a member of the Sydney Swans Team of the Century and Greg Everett, the current coach of the Canadian National AFL team, paid a special visit to the Boston Demons last week. Tony and Greg attended training on Thursday May 29, helping out with a few drills, and providing words of inspiration to the playing group.

Upset Win - Demonasaurs defeat Diaper Demons in titanic clash! 108-78

Demonasaurs came out hard and fast in the first quater with 4 quick goals. The young Demons fought back throughout the match, but just didn't have an answer to the skills of the old men.

Speaking after the match whilst on an oxygen tank, Coach Scotty was thoroughly pleased with his teams efforts - especially his own. "I personally think i was MARVELLOUS.. with a capital M" Lance Franklin look out..

With a few dubious cheap shots, the Demonasaurs have shown why age is no barrier to playing dirty. Winning the clash of old vs young.

Final score was 108 to 78.

OFFICIAL MATCH REPORT

In a titanic struggle between youth and experience, the Boston Demons first intraclub match was held at Minuteman Field on Saturday with the wily Demonasaurs running out eventual winners over the Diaper Demons 16.1 (108) to 11.1 (78) in a hard fought contest.

The Old Blokes started strongly dominating the midfield in the first quarter with inspiring performances from Stratford, Evon & Clarke leading to 4 straight goals and a Young Blokes squad stunned into silence. Only some penetrating kicking from Damo Helem and the ability of Pete “Macca” McCormick to occasionally break free from Demons legend Brad Rinklin allowed the Diapers to respond with two late goals to keep their hopes alive.

The tide turned in the second quarter with the Diapers carrying the momentum through Moreton, Mackey and Damo to kick four solid goals including a Pele’-style soccered major from a new-look Paul Haggerty that left the Demonasaurs backline scratching their heads. The Old Blokes struck back late in the quarter with three majors and a Scott Nicholas drop-kick running very slowly into an open goal to take a narrow lead into the main break.

An inspiring half time pep-talk from Diapers Coach McCormick left his charges confused and disoriented and the Demonasaurs took advantage of the lapse in concentration with Mark Smerdon driving hard of the half back line to send his team regularly into attack. An outstanding boundary line goal from Andrew Stratford further lifted the Demonasaurs and with with two booming majors from big man Homer the Old Blokes took a solid 21 point lead into three quarter time.

The fourth quarter saw the Diapers come out firing with Pete McNamara gaining possessions all over the ground, new talent Mark McCaffrey & Danny Yunes making good use of their possessions, and Jamie Gain showing good form. Damo Helem continued his excellent performance taking several impressive overhead marks and showing great intensity in every contest. A running Michael Shepherd took two solid grabs to keep the aging Demonasaurs backline guessing as Mark ‘Pointy Bird’ Sleet engaged in a strong tussle with Ed Mulrenan at every turn. Other strong contributors included rookie Dave Abrentice, Tim Hopper and Hair Joniec who ensured the old blokes won no easy contests.

Veteran full-back Gordon ‘Flash’ Beith had to draw on his near half-century of footballing experience to hold together a tiring Demonasaurs backline and was strongly supported by the charging Rhino, Jason de George. Demons superstar Will Skinner showed his silky skills remain intact, though he was unable to hold back an elusive Scott Dewar goal and a super goal from a pumped up Cam Stewart.

The Demonasaurs fought back however and were able to lock the ball into their forward line for long periods giving goal sneak Ben Hancock the opportunity to make space and kick two key goals while being strongly supported by Jason Ellul. George Lakomy took a break from guarding danger man Skills Burgess to create an inspirational run out of the Diapers backline, only to be repelled by lurking veterans in Tommy Ruyle, Surfer del Mar, Chugger Tassi and the ever running Greg Narleski who all worked hard to extend the lead.

The game was a great success and demonstrated clearly the depth of talent and commitment that the Boston Demons will carry into the 2008 EAFL & Nationals campaigns. Thanks to all players and supporters and umpiring guru Dougie Algate who did a great job as always with the whistle.

GO DEMONS!

NEW PLAYING EQUIPMENT DONATED BY MELBOURNEfc

Article Written by Cam Stewart

The Melbourne Football Club has kindly donated new playing equipment to the Boston Demons for the 2008 season. While in Australia on holidays in January 2008, I got the chance to visit MELBOURNEfc at the Junction Oval to pick up the new gear and meet a few members of the club.

A real highlight was meeting players David Neitz, Jared Rivers, Brock McLean, Brad Green, Cam Bruce and Brad Miller. These guys had a pretty impressive knowledge of sport in Boston, particularly the Red Sox, Celtics and the Pats. Another highlight was meeting Melbourne’s new coach, Dean Bailey, who was very keen to develop relations between our two clubs, and is also keen to catch a Patriots game live in the future.

I should point out that MELBOURNEfc have gifted us a huge amount of gear- 40 playing jumpers, over 60 pairs of playing shorts, and quite few other goodies including coats, polos and shorts.

A huge thanks to thank Ross Monaghan and Dale Christie from MELBOURNEfc for putting together the donated goods, as well as our club president Mike Larsen for organizing things at our end.
